The Minky fabric that we purchase and use have been tested for lead and have passed all government regulations. The testing was conducted by an independent laboratory. We have complied with all the guidelines of the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act (CPSIA).
Minky fabric has exceptional quality, which prevents its colors from fading and its warmth from decreasing over time. It is quick-drying, highly absorbent, and actually quite strong and unlike true mink, minky fabric is completely vegan. It comes out of the dryer looking like brand new over and over again.
Minky fabric is very easy to take care of; machine wash cold without softener and dry with low heat.
Double-Gauze Cotton Embrace Fabric
We are introducing new light weight fabric called Embrace, especially, for the warm weather approaching. We can combine Embrace with Minky fabric to make it light weight and more tolerable for warmer weather.
Machine wash cold; use non-chlorine bleach as needed; and hang dry or use dryer in low setting. The exclusive, Double-gauze Cotton Embrace fabric that we purchase and use, features a breathable and natural construction that becomes softer with every wash. Suitable for swaddle blankets, apparel, baby products, accessories, bedding, and more.
This double gauze consists of two layers of gauze tacked together. It has an incredibly soft hand and nice drape.
The underlying science on weighted blankets is called deep touch pressure (DTP). DTP is about gently applying pressure to the body to increase the release of serotonin.
Serotonin is a chemical in the body that promotes relaxation. What is interesting is that children with autism also tend to be low in serotonin, along with those who have depression, anxiety, aggression, ObsessiveCompulsive Disorder, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, and bipolar disorder. This could be why the effect is much more profound on children with autism, even though deep touch pressure works for most people.
Using weighted blankets on children with or without developmental disabilities is a drug-free way to increase serotonin and elicit a calming effect. Did you know that it can also improve focus? In a classroom setting, students that struggle with attention can benefit from using weighted tools (like a vest or a lap pad) to help them calm and focus – promoting on-task behavior
According to a study published in the Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine, “grounding the human body to earth (“earthing”) during sleep reduces night-time levels of cortisol [the stress hormone] and resynchronizes cortisol hormone secretion more in alignment with the natural 24-hour circadian rhythm profile.”
The “grounding” that weighted blankets provide, allows you to relax enough to keep your stress hormones under control while you sleep. The researchers also found that “grounding” can improve sleep while reducing pain and stress.
They could be used for autism, anxiety, toddlers, insomnia, and ADHD.
A weighted blanket can have many different materials that make it heavier. Two of the most common ones you will find are glass beads or plastic pellets. However, you can come across blankets that have rice, millet, or even lead in them (avoid the lead).
There are no definite risks of using a weighted blanket while pregnant. However, it is important to consult your health practitioner before you start using them.
Most people find a blanket weighing 7-12% of their body weight most comfortable. You can also check out our weight chart.
